MarySue and Sherry have lectured extensively across the country and internationally since 1991. They have developed two online courses and published numerous products including books, songs, and games related to self-regulation. Their work has been included in multiple occupational therapy textbooks and is used in over 85 countries. MarySue and Sherry have developed practical ways to teach people of all ages how to incorporate self-regulation concepts into everyday living. In 2003, they were honored to receive the American Occupational Therapy Association’s Recognition of Achievement Award for “Excellence in Intervention Development and Dissemination” for outstanding contributions to their field.

Target Audience:
This workshop is intended for all adults interested in learning practical strategies to support their self-regulation to feel more alert, energized, productive, and balanced.

Educational Level:
The Your Best Self Online Course is appropriate for Introductory, Intermediate, and Advanced Levels. Those who are new to the Alert Program® or self-regulation concepts (Introductory Level) will hear the information presented in a way that they will understand its application to daily function. And those who are familiar with the Alert Program® (Intermediate Level) or even teaching about sensory integration concepts (Advanced Level), will hear new ways to support their own self-regulation and incorporate those supports into their daily lives as well as better support their clients.

Learning Objectives/Outcomes:
Participants will be able to:
1) Describe their own level of alertness during their daily routine to improve their sense of well-being and productivity.

2) Identify their own alerting or calming strategies to help their day flow more smoothly.

3) Apply self-regulation awareness and knowledge of “mismatches” to better navigate and enhance personal and work relationships.

This course is designed so that the participant can begin or continue to implement the Alert Program® in their own daily routines. Video and additional resources (links to articles, websites, etc.) will cover the following information:

III. Alert Levels and Subtle Fight/Flight/Fright (19:34)

IV. Sensory-Motor Preferences (91:31)

V. Using Self-Regulation Strategies Throughout the Day (168:53)

VI. Observing and Navigating "Mismatches" (35:32)

VII. Your Best Self Summary and Review of Objectives (3:12)

NOTE: The numbers above reflect actual video minutes for a total of 6.0 hours. Learners also earn 2.0 hours for the use of the additional resources contained in the course. Total of 8.0 contact hours (0.8 AOTA CEUs and 10 NBCOT PDUs).

Instructional Methods:
This course includes the authors filmed as they present the content. These video modules feature lecture and slides throughout the course. This online course requires access to high-speed internet connections to be able to view the content and complete the post-test. Instructions and materials for activities, pdfs, additional readings, and resource weblinks are interspersed appropriately throughout the course.

AOTA CEUs/Contact Hours:

We comply with AOTA APP policies and as such will not retroactively grant AOTA CEUs.
